We are very excited to announce our newest research project being conducted in the UAE!
Following a range of sports and exercise science research endeavors undertaken over the past two years in partnership with diverse local and international universities, we are delighted to announce our forthcoming collaboration with ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine), the foremost organization in World, marking a significant milestone in our endeavors.
Established in 1954, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) stands as the largest and most influential professional organization dedicated to physical activity. With over 50,000 members hailing from 90 countries and encompassing more than 70 professions related to physical activity, the ACSM serves to advance and integrate scientific research into practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine. ACSM aims to promote global health and well-being. Their Exercise is Medicine® initiative connects fitness and healthcare, and the American Fitness Index® evaluates health factors in major US cities. The ACSM Annual Meeting draws thousands of professionals, with regional chapters hosting additional events.
ACSM collaborated with CDC in 1995 to create Physical Activity Guidelines, recommending 30 minutes of activity for adults. They later partnered with AHA to update the guidelines, advising 150 minutes per week. ACSM members contribute to global health initiatives, conducting research and informing public guidelines. Challenges remain in addressing underrepresented subgroups. ACSM focuses on diversifying its membership and leadership.
ACSM Books & Journals
ACSM provides access to state-of-the-art research, clinical reports, and practical content through our prestigious scholarly journals. Five peer-reviewed publications cover various areas of sports medicine and exercise science. With these resources, researchers, students, clinicians, and health professionals can stay updated on the latest advancements in the field. In addition, ACSM offers over 50 books and publications that delve into cutting-edge breakthroughs in sports medicine and exercise science.
UAE HEALTH & FITNESS TRENDS Research Project: ”Putting the UAE on the World Map!
The annual ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal® worldwide survey to determine industry trends by health and fitness professionals is now in its 18th consecutive year, and for the first time ever, UAE will participate!
The findings will be featured in ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal® in the January/February 2024 edition, accompanied by an analysis and dialogue on global health and fitness trends. The Trends Work Group has curated a comprehensive list of 45 trends to be included in the survey. In an effort to enhance readers’ understanding of fitness trends worldwide, this year the Worldwide Fitness Trends and Global Fitness Trends manuscripts will be merged. This comprehensive approach aims to emphasize both the similarities and differences across regions, providing a deeper insight into the world of fitness trends.
The UAE Health & Fitness trends survey was created through the collaboration of several HERC team members, including Ivana Banićević, Željko Banićević, and Dragan Stankić, along with the ACSM Work Group and Editorial Team as well as International representative.
To ensure the success of the inaugural year, HERC will collaborate with local universities, sports organizations, clubs, fitness centers, health facilities, and government entities to gather a substantial number of survey responses.
The Survey is divided into four sections, aimed at gathering valuable feedback for the UAE Health & Fitness sector. It will take approximately 10-12 minutes to complete, and the survey ensures anonymity through a double-blind design. There is also an optional section for participants to provide contact details if they wish to receive complementary gifts and participate in a lucky draw.
Participants who choose to provide their contact details will receive complimentary gifts, including a Certificate of Participation in the project, a copy of the survey results/research paper sent via email upon publication, and the chance to win one of five 500 dhs vouchers. These vouchers can be redeemed for health and fitness services at HERC.
All individuals aged 18 and above who are UAE residents are welcome to participate in the survey. We extend our invitation to health and fitness professionals, enthusiasts, individuals working in the field of sports and exercise, as well as anyone who leads an active lifestyle, to share their insights on the Health & Fitness Trends in the UAE.
